Fouten lijden de aandacht van de lezer af

Je doet veel moeite om potentiële klanten naar je website te trekken. Je strooit met visitekaartjes, zorgt dat je flyer overal ligt, adverteert in een huis-aan-huisblad en twittert bijna iedere dag. Dat werkt. In de statistieken van je website zie je dat de bezoekersaantallen stijgen. Maar wist je dat potentiële klanten afhaken als je fouten maakt in de tekst op je website? Uit onderzoek blijkt dat fouten afbreuk doen aan de begrijpelijkheid en geloofwaardigheid van je boodschap. En aan je imago!

 

Zorg voor effectieve, prettig leesbare en foutloze teksten

Veel ondernemers schrijven hun eigen teksten omdat ze dat kunnen en willen of omdat er geen budget of tijd is om een tekstschrijver in te schakelen. Maar het is lastig om een zelfgeschreven tekst te redigeren. Je bent blind voor je eigen fouten. Dus laat een collega je tekst controleren. Of print de tekst, lees hem hardop, leg hem weg en lees hem later nog een keer. Check in ieder geval of de tekst effectief, prettig leesbaar en foutloos is.

 

Is je tekst effectief?

Bepaal voordat je gaat schrijven het doel, de doelgroep en de boodschap van je tekst. Stel jezelf tijdens het redigeren de volgende vragen:

  • Is de tekst doelgericht?

  • Is de tekst geschreven vanuit het perspectief van de doelgroep?

  • Worden alle vragen van de lezer beantwoord?

  • Staat je boodschap kort en krachtig op papier?

  • Is de tekst zoekmachinevriendelijk?

  • Sluit je af met een call to action?

 

Is je tekst prettig leesbaar?

De meeste mensen lezen het liefst een tekst op taalniveau B1. Let tijdens het redigeren van je tekst dus op moeilijke woorden, lastige zinsconstructies en de lengte van de zinnen. Wissel korte zinnen af met zinnen van gemiddelde lengte.

Andere kenmerken van een prettig leesbare tekst zijn:

  • Er is een logische opbouw: de dingen die bij elkaar horen, staan bij elkaar.

  • Er is een duidelijke inleiding en afsluiting.

  • Kop en tussenkoppen dekken de lading en zijn kort en krachtig.

  • De tekst is scanbaar: er zijn voldoende witregels en tussenkoppen en bij opsommingen worden opsommingstekens gebruikt.

  • De stijl en toon van de tekst past bij de doelgroep.

  • De tekst is actief geschreven. Er worden zo min mogelijk voltooid deelwoorden en hulpwerkwoorden gebruikt.

  • De juiste signaal- en verwijswoorden geven structuur aan de tekst en helpen de lezer.

 

Is je tekst foutloos?

Typ-, spel- en taalfouten leiden de lezer af. Zet de puntjes op de i en check alle d’s en t’s, komma’s en hoofdletters. En controleer of je woorden aan elkaar moet schrijven of niet. Twijfel je?
